Israel will leave troops in 5 locations in Lebanon after Tuesday deadline, military spokesperson says
Israel will keep troops in several posts in southern Lebanon past a February 18 deadline for them to withdraw, a military spokesperson said on Monday, as Israeli leaders sought to reassure northern residents that they can return home safely.
Naim Qassem said any Israeli military presence on Lebanese soil after February 18 would be considered an occupying force.
The cease-fire deal requires Israel’s troops to be out by Feb. 18, but the country is seeking an extension.
