Police detained an Afghan refugee after a car slammed into a crowd in Munich, wounding more than two dozen people in what authorities said was a suspected attack.

Police say a 2-year-old girl and her mother have died two days after they were injured in the car-ramming attack on a labor union demonstration in Munich.

The authorities believe the crash, into a union’s strike-day demonstration, was a deliberate attack. The suspect is a 24-year-old Afghan asylum seeker who was known to the police.
