The recent winter storm and freezing temperatures exacerbated the need to provide a warm place to stay for the local homeless community.

Kristy Jocelyn, Executive Director of BASICS United Inc., knows first-hand the importance of providing cold weather shelters to those in need.

After receiving community feedback, the city lowered the temperature threshold to open the shelters and started giving people experiencing homelessness more of a heads up.

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - LAMP will activate their cold weather shelter ahead of the forecasted freezing temperatures. The shelter will be open daily from 6 p.m. until 7 a.m. for the days of Monday, Jan. 6 through Saturday, Jan. 11. The shelter will be at the LAMP Day Center located at 714 Charlton St in Valdosta.
