Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Tuesday called for the sale of state oil firm Ecopetrol's fracking operations in the United States to invest in clean energy.

For 2025, Ecopetrol said its plan for Permian's Midland and Delaware sub-basins include drilling some 91 development wells through estimated investment of $885 million to produce an average of 90,000 boe/d net to Ecopetrol Permian.

In a significant twist in Colombia’s energy narrative, state-owned petroleum firm Ecopetrol has announced that it has formally rechartered its oil joint venture with Occidental Petroleum (OXY) in the Permian Basin of Texas.

Ecopetrol and Oxy plan to extend development in Permian Basin, including 34 wells to be drilled between April 2025 and June 2026, with possibility of future extension.
