Spotify is getting support for Google’s Gemini Extensions, which will allow users to search for and play music using the generative AI assistant with natural language requests. The extension was first spotted in the code of the Google app in June, and now it’s rolling out to compatible Android devices, as reported by 9to5Google.

Google is continuing to reveal and release Gemini Extensions for users looking to leverage the LLM on their phones to actually get things done outside of simply chatting with an AI bot with endless, factual (most times) knowledge.

Enjoying voice controlled Spotify will be fun with this new Gemini extension, but it cannot do everything, and still isn't available everywhere. Google is rolling it out now, but it is only functional when your Gemini language is set to English. Moreover, you will need a Spotify Premium subscription to play specific songs.

Google has started rolling out its Spotify extension for Gemini users on Android. Under the "Play & Search" moniker, users can ask Gemini to discover music based on artist, song title, playlist, or lyrics. The feature echoes what Google rolled out for Gemini users earlier this year for YouTube Music.

Following WhatsApp, the second third-party Gemini Extension is Spotify. The “play & search” functionality is similar to YouTube Music.

Google has rolled out a new Gemini extension for Spotify, allowing users to interact with the Gemini AI assistant on Android devices to play and search for music on the platform. As stated in an update on the Gemini Support page,

Google’s Gemini is expanding its music capabilities, introducing a Spotify extension alongside its existing YouTube Music integration.
