The index for rent in the November CPI data rose 0.2%, according to the data released Wednesday. That's the lowest reading since July 2021. Owners equivalent rent, which estimates what homes would receive from renting their homes, rose 0.2%, the smallest gain since April 2021.

Last month's CPI was forecast to come in at 2.7%, according to economists surveyed by financial data firm FactSet. The Consumer Price Index, a basket of goods and services typically bought by consumers, tracks the change in those prices over time.
