BANGKOK -- Shares climbed in Asia on Monday, tracking last week’s gains on Wall Street, and analysts said investors were viewing President-elect Donald Trump’s choice of billionaire investor Scott Bessent as his nominee for Treasury secretary as a relatively market-friendly choice.

U.S. stocks are climbing after market superstar Nvidia and another round of companies said they’re making even fatter profits than expected.

Treasury yields eased after President-elect Donald Trump said he wants Scott Bessent, a hedge fund manager, to be his Treasury Secretary. Bessent has advocated for reducing the U.S. government’s deficit.

Asian shares mostly rose Tuesday, after technology stocks pulled Wall Street to another record finish. The S&P 500 rose 0.2% Monday from the previous session's all-time high to post a record for the 54th time this year.

Asian stocks rose on Tuesday led by an outperforming tech sector following record highs on Wall Street overnight, while the dollar hovered near a six-week low to the yen as traders weighed the outlook for interest rates in the United States and Japan.
