The New England Patriots made the big move to fired head coach Jerod Mayo immediately after the final game of the regular season. To replace him, they were able to land Mike Vrabel. Of course, Vrabel has a long history with the Patriots.

Mike Vrabel's new coaching staff is an almost total break from the past with a new and different approach. Vrabel is not a branch of the Belichick coaching tree. He's planting his own sapling, and it will be fun to watch it flourish.

According to Greg A. Bedard of Boston Sports Journal, Todd Downing is getting hired to be the wide receivers coach for Vrabel. Notably, Downing was Vrabel's offensive coordinator in Tennesee for two years and was his tight ends coach before that.
