BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Trent Dilfer was hopeful his second season as a college coach would be better. Instead, his team went 3-9 as the campaign turned into a nightmare on and off the field.

In two seasons as head coach of UAB, Dilfer has led the Blazers to a 7-17 record. It is hard to imagine that other AAC schools are plotting to keep UAB down by gutting their roster.
