On December 1, 1955, in Montgomery Alabama, Rosa Parks, was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white person, in defiance of Jim Crow segregation laws. This event helped spark the Montgomery bus boycott and the civil rights movement which would revolutionize rights for Black Americans.

The City of Tyler said that each Tyler Transit bus will have an honorary reserved seat on Monday for Rosa Parks Day. Parks was arrested on Dec. 1, 1955 after she refused to give up her seat on a segregated bus in Montgomery,

Rosa Parks Day is celebrated every year on December 1 to honor the Alabama native and civil rights icon. This year, Huntsville Transit will offer free bus rides on fixed routes from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Local non-profit working to granting Christmas wishes for children and parents
