From Monday these U.S states will have to pay 25% more for electricity as Ontario premier Doug Ford imposes tariffs
Under Trump's flip-flopping raft of tariffs, Washington placed a 10 percent tariff on Canadian energy, the major supplier to U.S. states hugging the northern border. Ford has pledged retaliatory 25 percent tariffs on Canadian electricity sent to the U.S. states of New York, Minnesota and Michigan from Ontario, to take effect on Monday.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford threatened to impose a 25% surcharge on or shut off the electricity the province exports to Michigan, New York and Minnesota.
“People are going to be losing their jobs in the U.S. and in Canada, and inflation is happening already. If there’s one thing the market doesn’t like is uncertainty. The market is going downhill quicker than the American bobsled team.”
Ontario Premier Doug Ford says starting Monday, the province will charge 25 per cent more for electricity shipped to 1.5 million Americans in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs.
In response to President Trump’s latest round of tariffs this week on Canada, Premier Ford — a political conservative who once supported Trump’s policies but was re-elected last week on a campaign against Trump’s actions — vowed to retaliate with a 25% surcharge on electricity exports to Michigan, New York and Minnesota.
