The race for Maharashtra's Chief Minister intensifies as the decision shifts to Delhi. Top leaders of the Mahayuti alliance, including Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde, and Ajit Pawar, are set to meet the BJP's central leadership in the capital.

BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis has left for Delhi where all the alliance leaders of the Mahayuti, including acting CM Eknath Shinde and NCP chief Ajit Pawar, will hold a final discussion with home minister Amit Shah.

Shinde resigned as Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Tuesday, days after Mahayuti's historic victory in the Maharashtra Assembly Elections. The term of the current assembly ended on November 26. The announcement of Maharashtra's next Chief Minister has been delayed after the Mahayuti alliance emerged victorious in the state assembly elections.

The decision on 43 other cabinet berths and portfolio distribution among the three alliance members of Mahayuti (BJP, Shiv Sena, NCP) is yet to be finalised.

Eknath Shinde on Wednesday said he has assured Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he will abide by the BJP's decision on naming his successor.
