The U.S. Supreme Court dismissed on Wednesday an appeal by artificial intelligence chipmaker Nvidia seeking to avoid a securities fraud lawsuit by shareholders who accused the company of misleading investors about how much of its sales depended on the volatile cryptocurrency market.

Shareholders filed a class-action lawsuit claiming they were misled by Nvidia, the microchip-making behemoth that is the world’s second-most valuable company.

In an unsigned order, the justices dismissed the case against the tech giant as “improvidently granted,” meaning they had concluded that it had been a mistake to take it up.
