Washington progressives are seeking to redesign the state flag and remove George Washington from the flag, calling the current design "outdated and uninspired."

In the only state named after a president, lawmakers in Washington are debating whether it’s time to redesign the state flag and possibly remove the nation’s first president from it. Democrats supporting a bill that would establish a committee to redesign the flag say it is outdated and that it’s time to consider if George Washington remains the best symbol for the state.
