Four people died after violence broke out in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal after a trial court allowed the survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid following claims that it was built by destroying a Hindu temple.

Four people died in clashes on 24 November after a trial court ordered the survey on the back of a petition that there was once a Harihar temple at the site.

The caveat has been filed through advocate Hari Shankar Jain, who had earlier filed a suit before the civil judge, Sambhal.

The Supreme Court has stayed proceedings in the Sambhal's Shahi Jama Masjid case until the mosque committee approaches the High Court.

In order to maintain law and order the Sambhal district administration has prohibited the entry of outsiders till December 10.

The suit was presented on November 19 and, on the same day, the trial court, in an ex-parte order, allowed the request for appointing an Advocate Commissioner for survey of the mosque, the plea said.
