He doesn't recall much about that Jan. 6, 1996, meeting in Knoxville, Tennessee, the third time in 12 months his UConn Huskies faced Pat Summitt's Tennessee Lady Vols. But he remembers how electric the environment was, how there wasn't an arena of that size, with that energy, on any other college campus in the country.

First-year coach Kim Caldwell and No. 19 Tennessee got their first signature win of the season and it came against the Lady Vols’ longtime rival — UConn. A back and forth game went Tennessee’s way in the end as the team came away with an 80-76 victory Thursday night.

Kim Caldwell defeated the legend. She humbled the UConn brand. She planted her flag. She made the Lady Vols a player again.
